Farmington Central High School is a public high school in Farmington, Michigan, which caters to students ages 16-19 in alternative settings while meeting the FPS benchmarks. Schools are part of Farmington Public Schools. Central High is a combined version of Farmington Alternative High School and Farmington Community School . The building was originally the Shiawassee Elementary School, which closed in 1980.

Application process

  • Applications are received on an ongoing and acceptable basis when space is available.
  • FPS students can retrieve applications from their guidance counselors at home school.
  • Out of the district students can take an application at the Farmington Community School front office.
  • The applicant's interview is done by the counselor when there is a vacancy.

Program

  1. The Secondary School Completion provides anyone over the age of 16, who has dropped out of high school, the opportunity to complete the necessary credit for a high school diploma or General Education Development certificate (GED).
  2. Adult Basic Education offers programs in math and reading for disabled adults over the age of 26 without a high school diploma.
  3. Alternative education gives students "at risk" between the ages of 16 and 19 as an alternative way to get their high school diploma. Classes are taught by certified instructors and follow the same curricula and benchmarks as traditional high schools. Students graduating from Farmington Central High receive a traditional high school diploma.
  4. English as a Second Language is a program for adults born overseas who want to improve their English proficiency. Course materials evolve from basic vocabulary to conversational competence, civic study, and understanding of American culture. Various grade levels are provided to meet individual needs. The transition class helps those who want to move on to the High School Graduation Program.

Graduation rate is the percentage of ninth graders who graduate from high school within four years, adjusting for students entering or leaving the District and into alternative programs. This rate is calculated by the State from data provided by the District. Parental Participation: The Alternative Education Program has a high degree of parental involvement.
