Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Creating a Team is an American reality television series that aired in 2006 on Country Music Television. The series follows the audition process and the establishment of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders annual squad. The series features DCC director Kelli McGonagill Finglass and choreographer Judy Trammell (both former DCCs from the 1980s), and former army sergeant Jay Johnson (who is the founder of "Boot Camp Fitness" and responsible for each girl's conditioning exercise must do for testing). Hundreds of young women auditioned each year and entered through DCC's "training camp" system before being cut into the final 36-member squad for the first pre-season home football game of the Dallas Cowboys.

The event tracks the progress each candidate must follow to make a final roster and premier on opening day at Texas Stadium (Season 1-3) and advance to AT & T Stadium (formerly Cowboys Stadium); first open audition "call cattle", then a 5-person "cut-down" audition, then personal interviews, uniform equipment, BMI testing, physical fitness tests, etiquette training, artificial media interviews, and calendar shoots. Successful candidates must also complete a test of knowledge on various subjects; including, but not limited to: Dallas Cowboys and their history, NFL Football in general and game rules, general history, government, and current events. There is also an exhausting dance choreography that tests each girl's ability to understand dance combinations and performs the DCC's known kick-line/jump-split routine exercise. The girls are judged by a panel of experts who are directly selected and assessed based on physical appearance, physical fitness, dance style, tranquility, grace, intelligence, and showmanship.
After the DCC training camp was opened, the girls were put through elite dance training programs and physical conditioning that were comparable to some professional sports training programs. If a girl is struggling, she is summoned to Finglass's office to discuss the nature of her predicament and is generally given the opportunity to correct the deficiency (s) to avoid being dismissed (cut off) from the squad. However, some girls have to be cut off for several reasons. Common reasons for cutting include the failure to perform properly mandatory dance routines, failure to display elite dance skills levels, lack of physical fitness and/or failing to meet body fat requirements, and to reduce the player list to the traditional number of 36 girls. Candidates have also been cut off due to past legal matters, morality issues, domestic disturbance (family problems), lack of readiness, and poor time-management skills. And the rookie candidate is not the only one that has been cut; even veterans have been cut off for some of the reasons mentioned above.
