Sterling Kelby Brown (born April 5, 1976) is an American actor. He starred in the drama FX The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story , in which he won the Emmy Primetime Prize. She currently acts as Randall Pearson in the drama NBC This Is Us . This role gives Brown his second Emmy award, in 2017, for Best Actor in Drama Series and his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Drama, as well as Screen Actors Guild Awards for Extraordinary Performance by Male Actor in Drama Series and Extraordinary Performance by Ensemble in the Drama Series.

Early life and education
Brown was born in 1976 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Sterling Brown and Aralean Banks Brown. Brown is one of five children; she has two sisters and two brothers. His father died when Brown was 10 years old. As a child, he goes by the name of Kelby; when he was 16 he adopted the name Sterling, explains in 2016,
I went to Kelby. My mother told me this story - she repeated it a while back - in kindergarten I came home one day and said, 'Mom, Sterling eight letters and Kelby five years old. I'll just do Kelby and then when I'm 16, I'll go with Sterling. 'And I do not remember that. The impetus for me was that he had been away for some time, and I was like, 'Kelby is a little boy's name.' I feel like I'm ready to be Sterling.
Brown grew up in Olivette, Missouri and attended the Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School. He went on to graduate from Stanford University in 1998 with an acting degree. He originally wanted to work in business but fell in love by acting as a freshman. Brown then attended Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where he obtained his MFA.

After graduating from college, Brown appeared in a series of roles in regional theater. Brown has also appeared on many television shows including ER , NYPD Blue , JAG , Boston Legal , Alias âââ ⬠<â ⬠<, Without A Trace , Supernatural , and Third Watch . She's a regular in Hunger comedy and also appears in movies, including Stay with Ewan McGregor, Brown Sugar with Taye Diggs and Believe in Men with David Duchovny and Julianne Moore.
She plays recurring characters in the Supernatural TV series, where she describes the vampire hunter Gordon Walker. Brown plays Dr. Roland Burton at Army Wives . He described Detective Cal Beecher on People of Interest , also appearing on Medium . In 2008, he played David Mosley on the episode of "Patience" from Eli Stone . In 2016, Brown starred in the FX miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story as Christopher Darden, where he won the Emmy Primetime Award for Leading Supporting Actor in Movies or Limited Series at the 68th Emmy Primetime Awards.
In the theater, Brown plays a part in the 2002 production of Bertolt Brecht The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui starring Al Pacino, Paul Giamatti, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman and Jacqueline McKenzie. In 2014 he starred as a Hero in the Odyssey drama inspired by Suzan-Lori. Father Comes Home From the Wars at the New York Public Theater.
Since 2016, she has appeared on the television series This Is Us . In 2018, he became the first African-American actor to win the Golden Globe in the best actor in the TV drama category, which he won for This Is Us . In the same year he also became the first African-American actor to win the Screen Actors Guild Award in Extraordinary Performance by Male Actor in the Drama Series category, as well as for This Is Us . She was also part of the Screen Actors Guild Award that year for Outstanding Performance by Ensemble in the Drama Series, again for This Is Us .
Personal life
In June 2007, she married actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, her lover in college. They have two sons.
