History
Joe Cirello, a barber from Philadelphia, claimed to have found the Duck Duck in 1940. The same hairstyle, sometimes called the Argentine Duck , consisting of greasy hair piled high on the top and swept to the side to form a ridge or stitching behind, simultaneously fashionable among the Mexican-American Pachucos of Los Angeles. The Duck Tail became a symbol of a disgruntled young man's style throughout the English-speaking world during the 1950s. In England, it becomes part of the visual identity of Teddy Boys and Rockers, along with Quiff and Elephant's Trunk.

Combing techniques
Style required for hair combed back around the side of the head. The tooth edge of the comb is then used to determine the middle part of the walk from crown to nape on the back of the head, resembling, to the lot, the back of the duck. The hairs on the top of the front of the head were deliberately messy so that the untidy strands hung over the forehead, or combed up and then curled into the 'Elephant trunk' which would hang right up to the top of the nose. The sides are laid out like a folded duck wing.
The style variant, Detroit , consists of the back and long sides combined with flattop. In California, upper hair is allowed to grow longer and combed into a wave-like pompadour form known as a "breaker".
The ducktail hairstyle contributes to the term greasers : to achieve this look, many pomades (hair oil) are needed to hold the hair in place. It's still the era of hair cream, so it only takes an increasing amount to keep hairs in the desired style. The fat brands used include Black & amp; White, Sweet Georgia Brown, Royal Crown, and Murrays. On the US West Coast, pomades like Dixie Peach or Brylcreem, and tonics like Wildroot Cream-oil are very popular.
To make sure that the hair is so, the wearer often touches D.A. many times during the day by smearing oily comb. This causes a stylish way of handling the comb by drawing out of the back pocket of a pair of jeans using extended index and middle fingers, and, holding it thus, runs the comb through the two "wing" sides of the force to adjust its shape.
Significance
The D.A. quickly became a stereotypical feature of rebels and nonconformists, and gained popularity especially after the emergence of rock 'n roll legend Elvis Presley, who had the same look. Although the ducktail was adopted by Hollywood to represent the wild youth of the Fifties, only a minority of men actually sport D.A., even among British Rockers and Teddy Boys in the same era. Style became popular in India after movie star Shammi Kapoor started the sport.
