Elmore Rual Robek Jr. (born February 6, 1931), known in his family and professionally as Rip Torn , is an American actor, voice artist, and comedian.

Torn was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his part as Marsh Turner at Cross Creek (1984). His work includes the role of Artie's producer on The Larry Sanders Show, which he nominated for six Emmy Awards, won in 1996. Torn also won the American Comedy Award for the Bravest Supporting Man in Serial, and two CableACE Awards for his work on the show, and was nominated for the Satellite Award in 1997 as well.

Elmore Rual Torn Jr. born in Temple, Texas on February 6, 1931, son of Elmore Rual "Tiger" Torn Sr. and Thelma Mary Torn (nÃÆ' Â © e Spacek). Tear graduated from Taylor High School in Taylor, Texas in 1948.

Torn is a member of Texas A & amp; M University Corps of Cadets, although he graduated from the University of Texas where he studied acting under professor Shakespeare B. Iden Payne, and was a member of Alpha Nu's chapter of the Chi Sigma Fraternity. After graduation, he served in the Military Police in the United States Army. While serving as a 2nd lieutenant in Fort Hood, Texas, Torn is known as a rebel preferred by enlisted men. She makes herself a problem with her boss when she leaves a field maneuver known as Operation Spearhead to return to the base to visit the house. Careers

Movies and TV

After moving to Hollywood, Torn made his film debut in the 1956 movie Baby Doll . Torn then studied at Actors Studio in New York under Lee Strasberg, becoming a productive stage actor, appearing in the original role of the Tennessee Williams Sweet Bird of Youth drama, and repeating the role in film and television adaptation. While in New York, Torn introduced his cousin Sissy Spacek to the entertainment business, and helped him register at Actors Studio.

One of Torn's earliest roles is at Pork Chop Hill , depicting the character of sister-in-law Gregory Peck. He also has an unidentified role in A Face in the Crowd as Barry Mills. In 1957, Torn described Jody in the early episode of The Restless Gun . In 1957, he starred as a jailed Steve Morgan in the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode "Number Twenty-Two," and in the same series in 1961 he played the recently released prisoner, Ernie Walters, at Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode "The Kiss-Off."

After describing Judas, the traitorous Jesus, in the 1961 epic film King Of Kings, Torn emerged as a graduate student with multiple titles in the 1963 Channing television series, and as Roy Kendall in episode Breaking Point "Millions of Faces." In 1964, Torn appeared as Eddie Sanderson in the episode "The Secret in the Stone" on The Elevent Hour and in the premiere of The Reporter.

In 1965, in the film The Cincinnati Kid, he plays Slade, a corrupt New Orleans millionaire who presses Steve McQueen during a high-poker game. On television that year, Torn plays Colonel Royce in the episode "The Lorelei" from Twelve O'Clock High .

Since then, he has been a character actor in many films (see Filmography below).

Part of George Hanson on Easy Rider was written for Torn by Terry Southern, but according to Southern Lee Hill biographer, Torn retired from the project after him and co-director Dennis Hopper went into bitter arguments at a restaurant in New York (see the Set Conflict section below). Jack Nicholson plays Hanson instead in a career launch performance.

In 1982, Torn served as a saint in the sword-and-magic movie The Beastmaster. She also starred in Jinxed! , a comedy with Bette Midler, and appeared as an airline executive at Airplane II: The Sequel . He plays the Border Patrol officer, across from Treat Williams and Kris Kristofferson, in the 1984 thriller Flashpoint. She starred in John Candy as a man who helped a tourist win a sailboat race in the 1985 Summer Rental comedy. He has a brief role as Sheriff Hank Pearson in Extreme Prejudice.

In 1988, he ventured to direct with The Telephone . This scenario was written by Terry Southern and Harry Nilsson and the film is produced by their company Hawkeye. Broadway

Torn has appeared in 10 Broadway dramas and directed one. In 1959, he made his Broadway debut when he played Tom Junior at Sweet Bird of Youth, where he won the World Theater Award and also received a Tony Award nomination.

In 2007 and 2008, he made 5 guest appearances at 30 Rock as Chief Executive Officer of General Electric, Don Geiss. She was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, but lost to Tim Conway, who starred in guest stars on the same sitcom. The Torn character was reportedly killed as a direct result of his capture in 2010, though Tina Fey denied this in a DVD commentary. Torn voiced the character of Hephaestus in the 2010 video game, God of War III .

Torn also appeared in the music video for the song They May Be Giants "Can not Keep Johnny Down", from their 2011 album Join Us .

In 2015, he changed his role as Zed in the video video of Men in Black for Air New Zealand.

Personal life

Family

Torn is married three times and has six children.

His first marriage to actress Ann Wedgeworth lasted from 1956 to 1961. They had a daughter, Danae Torn.

In 1963, Rob married Geraldine Page, and they remained married until his death in 1987. They had a daughter, actress Angelica Page, and twin sons: actor Tony Torn, Jon Torn (assistant professor of Electronic Media and Film at Northern Arizona University). Rob apparently likes the fact that the doorbell of their New York City house reads Torn Page.

Torn actress married Amy Wright in 1989. They have two children, Katie and Claire Torn.

Legal issues

On January 29, 2010, she was arrested after breaking into the Bancorp Litchfield branch office in Lakeville, Connecticut, where she retained her residence. A court judge decides to support Torn and Hopper ordered to pay $ 475,000 in damages, but refuses Torn's request for redress, which advocates Hopper not to act with malicious intent. Hopper urged.
