The Oprah Winfrey Show , often called just Oprah , is a nationally broadcast syndicated talk show for 25 season from 8 September 1986 to 25 May 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. Produced and hosted by namesake, Oprah Winfrey, remains the highest daytime talk show in American television history.
The show is very influential, and many of its topics have penetrated American pop-culture awareness. Winfrey has used the show as an educational platform, featuring book clubs, interviews, self improvement segments, and charities to world events. The show does not seek to benefit from the products it supports; he does not have a license agreement with the retailer when the product is promoted, or the event does not make money from authorizing the book for his book club.
Oprah is one of the longest daytime television tabloid talk shows in history. The event received 47 Daytime Emmy Awards before Winfrey chose to stop submitting it for consideration in 2000.

Winfrey interview with Tom Cruise, which aired on May 23, 2005, also became famous. Cruise "hops around the set, jumps onto the sofa, falls with a rhizome to one knee and repeatedly declares his love for his girlfriend, Katie Holmes." It has been reported that the average event is estimated at 7, 14, and 15-20 million viewers per day in the United States. It has also been reported at 26 million and 42 million a week (5.2 and 8.4 million a day). The number of spectators for the show has been reported to have declined over the years, averaging 12.6 million in 1991-2, 9 million in 2004, 9 million in 2005, 7.8 in 2006, 7.3 million on in 2008, and 6.2 million in 2009.
The show is number one in the talk show since its debut. This event spent many years as the highest rated program on the daytime television. Even with the constant tight rivalry of its daytime rival headquarters Judith Judy , Oprah still maintains a consistent lead over other talk shows.
The show was aired on most ABC stations in the United States (except KTRK-TV, but CBS KHOU affiliates held performances for the whole event) (as well as various other stations via CBS Television Distribution, King World's successor), CTV in most Canadian markets, Diva Universal in Malaysia, TV3 in Ireland, GNT in Brazil, TV3 nationwide in Sweden, Ten Networks in Australia, La7d in Italy, MBC 4 in the Arab world, MetroTV in Indonesia, FARSI1 in Iran, and in the Netherlands at RTL4.
In the United Kingdom, the show has been aired on a number of different channels. Channel 4 first broadcast the series on Monday 3 October 1988, During the 1990s BBC2 acquired the right before switching to Five from the beginning of 1998. Before moving again to Living TV in 2002, ITV2 in 2006 before moving again to Diva TV, before switching to TLC for some last series. During most of the 1990's and 2000's, Sky one also broadcast the series.
The show is aired in 149 countries around the world and is often renamed and dubbed into other languages.
