Eugène Paul Louis Schueller (March 20, 1881 - August 23, 1957) is a French pharmacist and entrepreneur who is the founder of L'OrÃÆ'à © al, the world's leading cosmetics and beauty company. He is one of the founders of modern advertising.

As a young Alsatian chemist from France, Eugène Schueller graduated in 1904 from the Institut de Chimie Appliquà © à © de Paris (now Chimie ParisTech). Schueller developed in 1907 an innovative hair color formula, which he called OrÃÆ' à © ale . He formulates and manufactures his own products, and sells them to Paris hairdressers.
In 1909, he listed his company, SociÃÆ'ç FranÃÆ'çaise de Teintures Inoffensives pouring Cheveux , the future of L'Orà © al. The guiding principles of the company that will be L'Orà © al start from the beginning: research and innovation for the sake of beauty.

Support for fascism
During the early twentieth century, Schueller provided financial support and held a meeting for La Cagoule at the headquarters of L'Orà © à © al. La Cagoule is a powerful anti-communist, anti-feminist, and anti-communist group whose leaders form the political party Mouvement Social RÃÆ'à Volutionnaire (MSR, Social Revolutionary Movement) at Occupied France supports Vichy's collaboration with conquerors from Nazi Germany.
L'Orà © à © al hired several members of the group as executives after World War II, such as Jacques CorrÃÆ'èze, who served as CEO of US operations. This engagement has been extensively studied by Michael Bar-Zohar in his book, Bitter Scent.

Princess Schueller, Liliane Bettencourt, is the widow of Andrà © à © Bettencourt with whom she has a daughter, FranÃÆ'çoise Bettencourt Meyers, member of the board of directors of L'Orà © Ã
© al. FranÃÆ'çoise Meyers married Jean-Pierre Meyers, whose grandfather died in a Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz. At one time, Liliane Bettencourt was the richest woman in the world, with ownership estimated at US $ 36.4 billion.
Legacy
The headquarters of L'OrÃÆ'à © al in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine is named Center EugÃÆ'ène Schueller .
