Black hair is the darkest and most common color of all human hair colors globally, due to the larger population with this dominant trait. This is a dominant genetic trait, and it is found in people of all backgrounds and ethnicities. It has a large amount of eumelanin and is less dense than other hair colors. In English, black hair is sometimes described as soft-black , black crow , or pitch black . The range of skin colors associated with black hair is very broad, ranging from the most pale skin color to dark skin. Black haired people can have dark or bright eyes.

It is found in its largest distribution in Asia, pre-Columbian America and Africa. Black hair is also very common in Asians, Eastern Europeans, Latin America, South Europe and Africa irrespective of ethnolinguistic affiliations. For example, the Portuguese and Spanish are famous for their straight or bumpy hair, and can be combined with dark colors (like browns) or brightly colored eyes (like green, gray or blue). The Irish with these characteristics is sometimes known as "Black Irish". Although these characteristics can be seen in people throughout England, this is becoming more common in Eastern Europe.
Dark-haired people, ranging from dark chestnut and dark-brown to dark, with dark or bright eyes, can also be seen among Indo-European and non-Indo-European ethnic groups in Iran, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Afghanistan and India North. Natural hair, so black hair is not completely dark in bright light. However, the darkest color is deep enough so it does not provide a warm, neutral tone reflection. Instead, the sheen can look almost blue, like the colorful wings of a crow. Thus, it is known as black-crow. It is found in people of African descent, Latin America, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
